About Taja

Say cheese!

Taja Smith is an Australian multidisciplinary creative whose practice sits at the intersection of environmental storytelling, photography, media, and communication. Through both visual and written work, her projects explore humanity’s relationship with the natural world, using art and storytelling as tools to provoke reflection, conversation, and meaningful steps towards change.

With a background in communications and journalism, Taja approaches creative practice with a strong emphasis on purpose-driven storytelling. Her work spans photography, design, publishing, and digital media, often combining visual aesthetics with social and environmental commentary. She is particularly interested in how communication can shape public understanding, emotional connection, and cultural awareness surrounding environmental issues.

Alongside her creative practice, Taja has received High Distinctions in podcasting and radio journalism and has contributed to collaborative publicly published creative projects including UOWS Values In Action— a curated set of design elements that represents the universities values acted out by staff, students and visitors at the educational institution.

Working across both independent and collaborative projects, Taja continues to develop work that merges contemporary media with intentional aspects of storytelling, driven by a firm belief that creativity should be the doorway to help others understand, read and interpret complex worldly issues.

My Story

“Through every story, image, and project, my goal is simple: to create work that leaves the rest of the world more aware, connected, and considered than when I found it.”
