Chromatic Currents | Mockup Exhibition | Catalogue Essay 2023
This exhibition is an exploration of artworks that use science and environment as the primary medium, creating new experiences of collective engagement with the climate crisis and the wonders of future realities. The artists works intervene with scientific modes of knowing and are inspired by the knowledge of environmental patterns, exploring collective anxieties and raising urgent ecological mysteries. Each and everyday we hear of the desperation for the rain, the terrors of floods or the alarming approach of bushfires amongst the ever changing climate projections. As irreversible change in the earth's atmosphere takes place, new demands for science, politicians and governments to make the first move grow. Climate fatigue is a commonality in the everyday lives of people and art as an agency and tool for these issues is mandatory. In recent art, technology has become a catalyst in not only the tools of production but also the digital and virtual imagined landscapes of the future of contemporary art (Dumbadze & Hudson, 2013). The works do not simply just stand in the gallery, they fill the stage wishing for contemplation and suggest a cue for reflection and awe.
